Whales:
Picture courtesy A. Powley October 2005 a Minke Whale, weighing approximately three tonnes was found at Gibraltar Point. (Now exhibited in science Museum) Previously a whale was washed up off Howden’s Pullover in 1974. It was a 50ft Californian whale. They fill up with gases as they decompose and it exploded! It was a sperm whale. The British Museum examined it. It was 55ft long and they said it was 50 to 60-years-old. It was the eleventh sperm whale to wash up that century on the Lincolnshire coast line. The twelfth one was washed up in Skegness in 1985 – it works out one is washed up every seven years or so.
